Who we are

JLA Living is an Edinburgh-based specialist in housing investment in Scotland. We exist to help deliver more homes more quickly by connecting housing opportunities with investment, and by aligning the goals of the public and private sectors.

A broad view of housing investment in Scotland

We bring together experience across Build to Rent, Single Family Rental, affordable housing, investment strategy and public-sector engagement, alongside Justin Lamb Associates‘ established expertise in land, planning and development.

We have significant experience of Scotland’s property market. We know the housebuilders, landowners and investors. We know the local authorities, housing associations and government. We understand the pressures, priorities and politics that shape their decisions, and what it takes to make housing investment in Scotland work for all of them. See what we do.

Our wider experience includes shaping housing policy, advising public-sector partners and helping investors establish and grow their businesses in Scotland.

That gives us a broad view of the housing picture: where the opportunities are, who needs to be involved and what has to happen to get things moving.

Children playing near family rental homes – housing investment in Scotland

Good housing is about much more than buildings

High-quality, well-managed family homes provide stability. Families stay longer, create settled communities and stronger neighbourhoods. Children have the security to remain in the same schools, develop friendships and benefit from continuity throughout their education.

Good housing improves health and wellbeing, and enables people to remain economically active.

More homes, more quickly. In places where people want to live.

Experience and expertise

Providing new homes requires an understanding of land, planning, investment, development and housing policy, together with an appreciation of the people who will ultimately live there. The strength of JLA Living comes from bringing those different perspectives together.

Land and development

Established experience across residential land, planning, housebuilding and development delivery, supported by the wider Justin Lamb Associates team.

Residential investment

Specialist knowledge of Build to Rent, Single Family Rental and private sector affordable home provision, together with an understanding of investment strategy and funding structures.

Homes and residents

An understanding of housing need, operational requirements, affordability and the factors that make a place successful for the people who live there.

Employment, education, access and amenity

A practical approach to assessing the wider qualities that support demand, strengthen communities and underpin long-term residential investment.

Affordable and intermediate housing

Experience across affordable housing policy, Mid-Market Rent, Intermediate Rent and housing propositions designed to improve access for all.

Government and public policy

Direct experience working with Scottish Futures Trust, City of Edinburgh Council and within the Scottish Property Federation. Knowledge and understanding of parliamentary process, and current Scottish Government housing policies.

Partnerships and stakeholder engagement

The ability to connect landowners, investors, developers, operators, housing associations and public-sector partners around a shared objective.

Unlocking delivery

Experience identifying why projects stall and shaping the funding, partnerships or policy interventions needed to bring them forward.

The answer is in aligned priorities, not divided interests.

We do not pretend every housing challenge has an easy answer, but the strongest propositions are those that focus on shared objectives and bridging differences. We focus on outcomes that work for investment and delivery; for the public and private sectors; and for the housing provider and the resident.
